Q. How much does the program cost?
A. Currently fees are $500.00 per month. Fees are collected 12 months of the year.

Q. Does Autism Funding cover program fees?
A. Yes. We can assist you with attaining the required forms.

Q. Is there any financial assistance/subsidy that can assist with monthly fees?
A. Unfortunately not at this time. NUKO is committed to reducing and/or eliminating costs to all families. Please visit http://www.nanaimouniquekids.organogold.com/ for details on our latest fundraising efforts.

Q. Can I visit the Learning Centres?
A. Visits to the Learning Centres are very disruptive to the routines of our students. We hold Open Houses throughout the year and will be pleased to meet with you then.

Q. Is transportation available?
A. We do not offer transportation to and from our programs. One of our centres is on a main bus route, however the other is not.

Q. How many children are in the program?
A. Our new Learning Centre accomodates 19 students.

Q. What is the student to staff ratio?
A. We are pleased to offer 2-to-1 support for our students. Throughout the day, every child is offered a combination of 1 to 1 instruction and small group lessons.

Q. What are the qualifications of staff?
A. Our staff has a wonderfully diverse background. We currently have Behavioural Interventionists, Educational Assistants, Community Support Workers, University Practicum Students and a Certified Teacher on staff.

Q. How is the academic component of the program provided?
A. All of our students are on a home school program offered through N.I.D.E.S. (North Island Distance Education School SD71). Each student has an Individual Education Plan which families are encouraged to contribute to. Please visit http://www.nides.bc.ca/ for information.

Q. How do I apply for the program?
A. Fill out a screening tool (found under Contact Us in the menu bar) and submit via email. You will receive confirmation of your placement on our waitlist and will be contacted once a position becomes available.

Q. How long is the waitlist?
A. Time on the waitlist varies. The schedule of incoming and going students and compatability are factors.
